Gone are the dog days of summer

I can't believe how fast the summer has gone! I was told that the older you get the faster it goes. I didn't want to believe it but I see the truth in it! The seasons all seem to blend into one another. We are getting ready for our busiest time of year - the cool months. Daycare, grooming, swimming and obedience all become a little busier and more exciting! New friends to meet and new and exciting changes at Pawsitively Pooched! It's been a great summer! Summer at Pawsitively Pooched

aaaaaaaaaah, the dog days of summer! It has definately been nice out lately! FINALLY! So what is new at Pawsitively Pooched???

Daycare is better than ever! Tons of room to play with new friends and old! While your dog is here for daycare they can even go for an hour long walk to Confederation Park with their favorite 'camp counsellor' at Pawsitively Pooched!

And YES, there is a pool here! Why not book your dog in for a swim session with one of our amazing therapists?!?!?! It's a great way for puppies to learn how to swim, dogs that love to swim to continue swimming and for dogs that need it for therapeutic purposes! All swim sessions are controlled and positive based. Also not to forget to mention filled with tons of cuddles and kisses!

On August 14th we will be celebrating our 5 years!!!!!! An enormous thank you to our incredible dog and human clients that have made the last years an incredible success and an absolute blast!!!

As a thank you we would love to invite everyone down to participate in some great festivites that we are holding on Saturday August 14th, 2010 from 10:00am-3:00pm.

There will be a BBQ, and open house, silent auction and a DOGWASH!!!!!! The proceeds from the activites will be going back into helping friends in the community. This year it is the Cochrane Humane Society and the Animal Cancer Therapy Society!

Carrie did great for her swim yesterday!! She is a bit of a cheater though-doesn't like to use her back feet. She felt so good after her swim. She was bouncing around in daycare after with her sister, Cash!
Jan 29/10 Carrie enjoyed her swim! although she is still not using her backs legs to proppel herself through the water, we need to find a good way to motivate her......and no we wont be using pupperoni treats!!! ;-)
Feb 2'10 Carrie now has a waist!! well done Carrie!!! and she has begun to use her back legs, what an improvement.

Feb 12'10 Carrie is using her back legs when turning, so Alysia made sure she did plenty of turns in the water, well done Carrie!

March 3'10 Carrie has completed her weight loss program and we are pleased to announce that she has lost 6LBs!! that is excellent, there is a noticable difference in her, her owner is very happy. Keep it up Carrie!!!

It has been ages since we posted anything - I apologize!! Things have been so busy lately and an absolute blast. Today we have 50 dogs and wanted to share with everyone some of the silly pictures I took of the little guys. Bella and Gus were hysterical. Jumping all over the place, jumping off Lola and Rupert. Jasmine did fantastic today as well, running all over the place checking out the dogs and all of the
toys. The little guys are wild!!!! So goofy!!!

Markio, just hours before the Mutt Strut had an unfortunate and sad time at the Veterinary Clinic when another one of her dogs, Storm, turned ill and had to be euthanized. She still came to support the Cochrane Humane Society as it is close to her hart and did the walk in honor of Storm...we will all miss him!

Puppy Raiden

Raiden has been quite the little star at Pawsitively Pooched! More and more people are getting to know her and her goofy little personality is coming out more and more with everyone that walks through the door. I have even had some offers of clients taking her home! Sorry, I love my little brat too much! Following are a few pictures of her experiences over the last month. She has been very busy at off-leash parks, running around the business, swimming in the pool with me at Pawsitively Pooched and much more! We only have two weeks left for the critical sociliaztion period and have a ton more to introduce my little pup to!!!! It has been so great to have her in my life! She has given me a stronger purpose and dedication to create an even better facilty for dogs and their people! Thanks everyone for your support and kind words over the last few weeks! Rainy Day Raiden

We are doing everything we can to stay dry today unlike the beautiful weather we had yesterday!! Wow! Is it ever coming down! Raiden is not much of a fan of the rain. So we are sitting inside today watching movies and doing some work. Luckily she is getting a little better at holding her little bladder.

It has been a fun week for Raiden. She got to visit the girls several times at Pawsitively Pooched! She tears up and down the hallways as though she owns the place. She went swimming twice in the pool and did fantastic! She went to several different peoples houses, went for a walk in kensington, went to a pet store, has gone for many car rides, walks at Griffith woods and much more! She is loving every minute of it! And so are we!

On August 8th, Raiden and I will be helping out at the Dogwash/Cochrane Humane Society Fundraiser! Stop on by to say hi to Raiden and to help support the Cochrane Humane Society!! It is for a great cause!

Raiden Chronicles

I would like to introduce my new little buddy Raiden! We got her Sunday night, only 2 days ago, and I am loving every minute of it! I felt as though I had permanently lost something when I had lost Heidi! There is nothing like the love and companionship from a dog!!!

Raiden has been a really easy puppy....so far! The first night, she didn't sleep a whole lot, and neither did we. We are kennel training her and she had a ton to say about that and being whisked away from her brothers and sisters.

Monday was a really great day with Raiden! She got to go visit the girls at Pawsitively Pooched, meet new friends, watch rollerbladers and skateboarders and chase a cat. She was exhausted! And she only had two pee accidents. She was fantastic in her kennel during different intervals throughout the day.

Today was another busy day for Raiden. She doesn't settle so well in the car anymore. She is a bit of monkey - climbing over and under the seats. Off I went to go buy a kennel for the car. She went to Griffith woods and met a ton of kids today and even got to smell a bike. She isn't too much of a fan of bikes. She prefers to growl and bark at them. Tough 7 week old fuzz ball. She even launched herself into the pool at Pawsitively Pooched!

Last night she slept majority of the night without a peep - and NO ACCIDENTS!!! woohoo Raiden.

I am so happy to have her in my life! I forgot how the simplest thing such as a dandelion or an ant can keep them amused for ages. Watching her bounce around like a lunatic has left me in many hysterics! I forgot how fun it is to have a puppy! Stop in to say hi to Raiden or join up with us in an obedience class! It is never too early....she knows her name, come, sit and we are working on leave it. Not too interested in a vet bill for a foreign body for all that she tries to hoover off the ground, including rocks!!!

SUMMER - It's the middle of June already and we are looking forward to the warm weather and the sunshine. Remember with that, comes mosquitoes and heat. Make sure if your dog is out in the yard, they have plenty of shelter to stay cool and fresh water to drink. Don't forget after a rain to empty out any standing or still water like buckets or chairs that catch water to help control the mosquito population.

Girardia - Dogs love to run in the lakes and ponds around the city or drink out of stagnant puddles. Girardia is a concern this time of year so get your dog vaccinated and try to keep your dog from drinking the water...haha good luck with that!

Grooming - Have you been told your dog is difficult to groom? Give us a call or Come on down to book an appointment with our Groomers. They can work with your dog, help your pooch to behave while being groomed and encourage good behavior in a "Pawsitive" way. Our Groomers will take the time so your dog will have a good experience. Just let us know what your concerns are and we would be happy to help.

Get Pooched Bootcamp DAY 1

We did it!! Day 1 of GET POOCHED bootcamp. We all met out in Bragg Creek bright and early for our bootcamp. 10 dogs and their people! We could have not asked for better weather! There were a couple of times where I thought I would have to be left in the bush, but I managed to make it through, but definately walking a little funny today! It was an absolute blast and cannot wait for next Sunday!

We have a new dog in daycare today. Jet, is a black terrier crossed with "who knows what" (these are his owners words...haha) ...He's GORGOUS!!! he is getting along great with all the dogs in his group and seems to be fitting in the pack just fine! We love to see a new dog being introduced to a group. The pack mentality is beautiful and something to see. A dog at home is a completely different dog when in a pack enviornment.

I recently signed up with google alerts. For those of you who have not heard about google alerts-it is a search engine that forwards specific articles to your email account. I google alerted - DOGS! What a great way to see what is going on out there in the dog world and at my fingertips. Pretty cool......well, until it started bombarding my email account. The problem wasn't all of the dog info being flooded to my account-but all of the SAD information that was being forwarded. Out of 14 news clips, maybe one was positive. It was heartbreaking! So, I have decided to start adding clients stories and our own, of all of the wonderful things our pets have done for us and what they mean to us in our life! At the daycare we have about 40 friends who visit us each day! It is an absolute blast. The dogs, and ourselves of course, have tons of time to play, cuddle and run around! In the daycare we have toys for the dogs to play with. We ask them to sit, down, off, leave it and wait. We are always trying to implement the training the owners have started at home. Here are a few pictures of our friends in daycare!

Bootcamp!!!

Traci and I are so incredibly excited for the boot camp!!!! We have been talking to tons of people and the ideas and feedback we have been getting have been overwhelming and so exciting!

There will be nutrition talks for owners and their pets, their will be First Aid tips, there will be obedience training, yoga, special guests and of course an incredible work-out in Bragg Creek!!! As Traci and I closer to filling in all of the details we will let everyone know!

So come on down, meet new walking buddies, new dog friends and have some good laughs with a ton of information that will be available! I already have my hiking boots on!!!! Now I just need to wait for my new puppy to arrive! Yes, I said it! I am getting a puppy................

The weekend at PetExpo was a success!! Thank you to all of you who stopped in to say hi and show your support! We met with quite a few other dog fanatics and even got to say hi and catch up with old friends! It was great to see the turnout at the PetExpo and all of the people that were there for the love of their pets! We also met quite a few rescue organizations that are from in and around Calgary - great job guys! Keep up the great work!

Thanks to Storm for being our wonderful model at the PetExpo! You were a hit!

We are looking forward to next years event! We have already started planning.
In the meantime we are focusing our attention on our Dog Wash Event on August 8th. Details still need to be worked out but there will be a dog wash, a BBQ, different vendors and an open house! Stay tuned for more information!

Pawsitively Pooched gang!

The anticipation is gruelling!!! What is in her hand??

Not only do they get a ton of cuddle time, there is also a ton of play time!

And swimming!! Recreational and Therapeutic swims!

And we offer grooming at Pawsitively Pooched! The dogs are spoiled all day long!! We wouldn't want it any other way!!!

We are heading to the PetExpo this weekend and are really looking forward to it! This week has been filled with photos of our friends at Pawsitively Pooched, videos, slideshows, doggie treats, toys, grab bags and so much more!
